
Tens of Thousands of Years before the settlement of Origin
The Omegura Site Cluster
The abundance of excavated obsidian tools conveys stories of the origins of this “brand” of obsidian that traces back to the palaeolithic period. Professional obsidian tool makers left traces suggesting that they took up residence deep in the mountains, in the water basin from which the obsidian originates. To this day, crowds of people come from within and outside the prefecture to draw water from the “Obsidian Water (“Kokuyo no Mizu”) drinking fountain.
